Second Term of the GLA High Street Classroom

We recently wrapped up the second term of activities as part of the High Street Classroom, our learning programme for high street stakeholders run with  Architecture00 and Kelly Drake for the Mayor of London.

Treating London’s high streets as our classroom, we visit projects, learn from each other and collaborate on fresh ideas to help deliver good growth for Londoners.

This term’s programme included:

  • A High Street Rental Auctions seminar at the Camden Collective, with policymakers from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, Local Authority officers and BID representatives

  • A Shopping Centres on the High Street seminar at the Croydon Urban Room in the Whitgift Centre, with representatives across Croydon Council teams as well as Turf Projects

  • A Food on the High Street visit to Southall, with Ealing Council colleagues, local business owners, developer representatives and religious leaders from Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara

  • A Markets on the High Street visit to Walthamstow Market with Waltham Forest Markets and Regen teams, followed by the launch of the GLA’s Tomorrow’s Market Best Practice guide with expert voices including representatives from the GLA, Gort Scott, Abdullah Elias, Tower Hamlets Markets, Retail Revival, and more.

  • A Health on the High Street seminar at Health Foundry, with representatives from North Central London ICB, the NHS Confederation, Health Foundry, Fleet Architects and Lambeth Council

  • A Working Group developing consensus and peer-peer learning around the implementation of the High Street Rental Auction Policy in the London context

  • A ‘School of Thought’ coaching programme supporting 7 junior Local Authority officers to develop partnership and leadership skills

We look forward to returning after the summer with a third term of activities - watch this space!
